Species: BERYL Locality: Ledge Pond Mica Mine, Sunapee, NH. Specimen Size: 3.4 cm double terminated crystal Field Collected: Harold Post - NH collector Catalog No.: 2109 Notes: Found these double terminated 3.4 cm (1 -3/4 inch) beryl crystals in a cigar box at Gilsum Show - 2019. Locality labeled in box: Ledge Pond Mica Mine, Sunapee, NH. From a deceased collector - Harold Post (western NH home). Price - one dollar each! Terminated beryl crystals are uncommon in NH, so was happy to get these. I have never visited this locality.... or seen specimens from it previously.... but it is listed in Morrill's book. |

Species: BERYL Locality: Island Mine, Alstead, NH Specimen Size: 6 cm specimen Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: NC Notes: I trimmed down a beryl containing six inch Island Mine chunk to 2 1/4 inches. The beryl, although a nice gemmy aqua, had a very irregular termination, so not a remarkable specimen. The Island mine produced some very nice aquamarine, but very little is seen today, (no gem crystal examples on mindat.org as of 8/21.) Most of the Island Mine dump is in a swamp, that depending on beaver activity, may be under water. |
